- GRADE 5: 8-WEEK LEARNING CALENDAR
Deepening mathematical reasoning and preparing for middle school.
This parent-facing calendar provides the primary focus for each week. Instruction may be adjusted based on pre-assessment data and student needs while remaining grade-appropriate.
| Week | Learning Focus | What Students Will Practice |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Number Sense & Numerical Reasoning | Strengthen place-value relationships, rational-number reasoning and flexible representations. |
| 2 | Whole-Number & Decimal Computation | Use efficient, accurate strategies and estimation to solve computation and contextual problems. |
| 3 | Fraction Concepts & Operations | Deepen fraction relationships and apply fraction strategies to grade-level problem solving. |
| 4 | Decimals, Fractions & Connections | Connect representations, compare quantities and explain strategies. Midpoint progress update. |
| 5 | Multi-Step Problem Solving | Select operations, organize information, justify solutions and persevere through unfamiliar multi-step tasks. |
| 6 | Measurement, Geometry & Volume | Apply grade-level measurement and geometric reasoning, including volume and spatial relationships. |
| 7 | Data, Patterns & Algebraic Thinking | Analyze data, identify relationships and use patterns/early algebraic reasoning to generalize and solve problems. |
| 8 | Apply, Connect & Show Growth | Integrate major grade-level concepts through rich mathematical tasks; complete post-assessment and reflect on growth. |
Ongoing every week: mathematical vocabulary, explaining thinking, strategy selection, problem solving, productive struggle, and confidence-building.
